Effect of high field material characteristics on breakdown under transient conditions

High field electrical characteristics of polymers can vary widely, from thermal activation energies (trap depths) in the range of 0.5 eV to 1.2 eV resulting in large variations in space charge limited field, temperature dependence of conductivity, etc. The implications of such variations for high field aging and breakdown under transient conditions are considered through analysis with the conclusion that the propensity for high field breakdown is probably a relatively weak function of such property variations.
