Optimization of Fan-Beam Radiation Pattern of Cylindrical Phased Array

The aim of this work is to obtain the fan-beam radiation pattern of a cylindrical multi-element smart antenna. If the smart antenna consists of a large number of radiating elements, the optimal amplitude-phase distribution on the array elements is more appreciated to obtain by multiplying the optimal vertical and horizontal amplitude-phase distributions. The amplitude-phase distribution corresponding to the cosecant radiation pattern is used as the optimal vertical one to provide the maximum range, and the weight vector obtained from the modified LMS algorithm is used as the optimal horizontal amplitude-phase distribution. This paper first considers the application of the modified LMS algorithm to a cylindrical antenna array with a large number of radiation elements. The sensitivity of the algorithm to changes in the initial conditions has been investigated in order to minimize the system error as well as to increase the convergence rate of the algorithm.
