Analysis of the SIDC market on relationship between auctions and continuous trading

This paper presents an overall view of the European single intraday market coupling (SIDC) with a focus on the Iberian model. Iberian SIDC is a hybrid model composed by auctions and continuous trading. Our aim is to analyze the behavior of market operators through statistical analyses of orders submitted during 2020. The relations between auctions and continuous trading underlaying the strategies adopted by players during different timeframe of days and months have been analyzed. Several studies have highlighted many differences in prices, number of offers and type of products for offers submitted depending on the delivery time and if they are treated in continuous or auctions. The results suggests that continuous trading is necessary in order to foster the growth of renewable energy sources (RES) to trade close to the real time, but the presence of auctions help maintaining the market liquid and most of the volumes can be exchanged in a better market condition.
