Dual Polarization and Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna based on Defect Ground Structure for Mid- Band 5G applications

, dual polarization and frequency reconfigurable antenna is proposed. The switchable Defect ground structure (DGS) technique is used to achieve frequency configurability with simple DC biasing circuit. The proposed antenna delivers dual linear polarization (Vertical and Horizontal). For each polarization state, antenna resonant frequency can be reconfigured independently between 3.5GHz and 3.6GHz with approximately constant impedance bandwidth (larger than 100MHz). Furthermore, the design antenna delivers gains of 3.4dB and 4dB for 3.5GHz band and 3.6GHz band respectively with acceptable cross polarization and port isolation levels which is better than −20dB. A good agreement between simulated and measured results are obtained. The designed antenna is a good candidate for 5G applications in order to increase spectrum efficiency.
