A Fire Prevention/Monitoring Smart System

Fires cause severe damages and loss of human lives. The probability of fires is highly increasing in buildings under-construction, where melting and other fire-related processes take place excessively. In addition, fires generate smoke that causes serious injuries to human health. For instance, when going to camping, people may breathe in carbon monoxide and other toxic gases, formed due to the burning of charcoal, which leads to hazardous health issues. Moreover, and especially in the Middle East and the GCC, oil and gas leaks can seriously add to the problems of fires. Huge amount of H2S gases and other liquid petroleum gases (LPG) leaks occur in Kuwait oil rigs and refineries, causing harmful diseases. Consequently, a smart emergency system needs to be designed to perform the multitasks of detecting and monitoring fires, smoke, and gas leaks. In this paper, we explore this task, while using solar panels, as a renewable energy source, to power the proposed design. Two main tasks will be addressed; the first one is to detect fires, smokes, and/or gas leaks, to notify the authorities, while the second one is to provide real-time monitoring and control of the entire hazardous buildings or areas that are under fire. Reliability issues, working with different sensors on daily basis, and using controlled fire extinguisher will be carefully investigated. Performing regular maintenance of the solar panels, including auto-cleaning and optimizing their performances will be addressed. A discussion and a conclusion are presented to highlight the advantages and limitations of the proposed system, while comparing it to similar systems, reported in the literature.
