Design and optimization of Compact Wideband Patch Antenna Using Genetic Algorithm for WLAN Communication

Due to more congestion of applications in the lower microwave spectrum, there is a need to develop an optimized antenna for operation in WLAN applications. A broadband, planar and compact optimized rectangular microstrip patch antenna radiator is showcased in this work. The antenna has a miniature size of 35× 45 × 1.6 mm, which resonated at 5.2 GHz with reflection coefficient of -28 dB and possesses peak gain of about 2.5 dB. The results reveal that the radiator possesses a broad bandwidth of 1.03 GHz. Using the Genetic Algorithm Synthesis method, the antenna is optimized. The patch radiator is printed on a ceramic substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.4 and 1.6 mm thickness.
