Design of a Compact Vivaldi Antenna for Millimeter-Wave 5G Communication System

In recent times, 5G networks have been developed and deployed for communication purposes, including developed and underdeveloped countries, due to the high data transmission rate. Since transmission with a high data rate covering a wide area has become necessary, proper Efficiency and Bandwidth are required. Considering the demand, a small-sized Vivaldi Antenna has been designed in this paper for millimeter-wave 5G communication in the CST Studio Suite Software with an operating frequency of 50.4 GHz ranging from 40 GHz to 60 GHz. The simulated Vivaldi Antenna has an architectural orientation of 1mm*3mm. Taconic RF-60A (Lossy) was used as a substrate material to design the Antenna. The metal part of the Vivaldi Antenna was created by Perfect Electric Conductor (PEC) material. From the determined output parameters, a Return Loss (S1,1) magnitude of 35.30 dB, Gain of 4.50 dBi, Bandwidth of 5.52 GHz, along with an efficiency of 95.23 %, etc. have been successfully determined. After analyzing these performance parameters, it can be said that the simulated Vivaldi Antenna would be an ideal option for the mm-wave 5G communications.
