Fault Diagnosis in an AFPM Synchronous Generator through Phase EMF Voltage Sum

This paper investigates the spectrum of the sum of the three phase EMF voltages of the machine as a fault identification mean during various faults, like the partial demagnetization and the combined partial demagnetization and static eccentricity, both angular and axis, fault. The machine, in which occurs the faults, is an Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator and is simulated using 3D Finite Element Method. The novelty of the paper is that the phase EMF voltage sum signal has not been used previously for combined fault and demagnetization fault diagnosis purposes in an axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine.
