Influence of a filler winding angle on strength of heat-proof shells from carbon-carbon composite materials

Numerous structural elements of modern facilities are exposed to high heat flows and mechanical loads simultaneously. The reliability and serviceability of structures operating under conditions of. ultimate force and heat loads are mainly determined by the strength of materials for which successfully employed are carbon matrix composites which operate under temperature conditions in excess, of 1000/spl deg/C. This paper presents the investigation of the strength of the shell-type structure for heat protective coatings. The problem of the stress-strain state of structural elements from anisotropic composites has been solved taking into account the distribution of the physicomechanical characteristics obtained with the use of the unique equipment which enables one to simulate the actual operating conditions of the object under study. The data obtained have made it possible to determine the stress state of the constructive shell elements depending on the matrix and orientation of the carbon heat protective coatings in the temperature range from 20 to 1500/spl deg/C. The calculations performed show that the normal stresses in the cylindrical thermal-protective shell from carbon-carbon materials grow with an increase in the value of the winding angle /spl phi/. The axial stresses /spl sigma//sub z/, are therewith 5 times higher than the tangential stresses /spl sigma//spl theta/ both in the tension and compression zones.
