A New Topology with 31-Levels for Cascaded Multilevel Inverters

This paper presents the design of a thirty-one-level inverter topology which can be connected in a cascade fashion to generate higher levels. The topology is arranged in three sections. The left and right sections are similar in shape but contain DC sources of different magnitude while center section is an H-bridge circuit with two more switches. By appropriately designing the switching sequence, thirty-one levels are obtained. In addition, sixty-one levels are obtained by connecting two units of the proposed topology. MATLAB /Simulink simulations show that proposed topology can indeed generate the stated voltage levels.
