Transforming Supply chain Management through Industry 4.0

As the crisis of pandemic subsiding and the world moving towards “Normalcy”, it made the world realized how fragile our traditional methods and global supply chain can be. Covid-19 was the black swan that exposed the many vulnerabilities of many organizations, but at the same time it also showed the resilience of the supply chain. The entire supply chain was quick to respond and changed overnight, clearly reflects the Industry 4.0 combined with emerging technology played a massive role in pandemic. During the lockdown with the shortage of workforce, raw material still responding to the surge in demand was only possible combining the automation and technologies of Industry 4.0. The supply chain industry has fast adopted the automation and digitization in the last two decades. Enterprise Computing is the IT tool are used by businesses in order to facilitate efficient production and still provide back-office support. Enterprise system includes- enterprise resources planning system (ERP), enterprise planning systems and customer relationship management software (CRM). Technologies like - RFID and loT are now integral part of Supply chain to monitor the entire supply chain. In-fact the automation and Robots are play a significant role in the Warehouse management. The paper aims to examine the evolution of Supply chain embracing technology in the Industry 4.0 to enhance the productivity, performance and visibility across the supply chain. A detailed literature review methodology has been adopted to analyse various traditional digital technologies adopted in the recent past and its challenges. The study would guide the practitioners to understand the constraints of traditional technologies and redesigning their traditional supply chain through digital technology enablers. It would also open new vistas of research for academicians and researchers.
