An information appliance capable of seamless screen-display atop printed matter: towards paper-anchored hypertext and multimedia

We present an information appliance prototype for seamlessly layering still and animated images atop newspapers, magazines or books. Screen images are displayed in accordance to the appliance's position over the printed page, relying on a tiny camera. Building upon real-time image processing, pattern matching and position tracking, user interaction is enabled by anchoring hypertext and multimedia onto printed matter.
