Analysis of Electrical Protection Coordination At Biogas Power Generation Plant From Palm Oil Mill Effluent

The processing of palm oil from palm fruit in industry produces palm oil mill effluent (POME) as liquid waste, will produce greenhouse gas emissions because it emits methane gas (CH4) and carbon dioxide gas (CO
2
) wasted into the open-air environment. On the contrary, methane gas from properly processed POME has benefits as a renewable energy source for biogas power generation plants. The generated electric power can be transmitted to supply the electricity needs in the internal industry and exported to the public electricity grid. The Electrical system at the biogas power generation plant has equipped with a protection system. This research discusses the time coordination protection between the transformer, grid utility, biogas generator, and internal load. A protection system, based on overcurrent techniques related to the circuit breaker of each section, is proposed with the protection system coordination by plotting coordination curves. Proper coordination in electrical protection systems is required for orderly isolation and keeping the system safe from the broader damage during electrical faults.
