Altitude Calibration toward Floor Change Detection

Many mobile car parking recommendations adopt the smartphone’s sensors, like the barometer and altimeter, to support them in finding nearby parking lots. However, it has been recognized that their values are not stable and dynamically change due to atmospheric conditions. This leads to poor performance in detecting the floor change and recognizing how to improve it. This research then aims to study the characteristics of the altimeter’s altitude height and proposes an altitude calibration to be used in floor change detection. A dataset was collected to analyze its pattern and tested in an experiment. The results were improved and stable enough to be used in floor change detection.
