Network peak load reduction by home charge management of electric vehicles

Growing electricity consumption of households, due to the charging of electric vehicles and other new appliances, will lead to high investments in grid reinforcements. The application of smart charging to home charge points can avoid or diminish these investments. This pilot study has operationalised charge management using a home energy management system in households. A peak load reduction of up to 40% was achieved with negligible inconvenience to end users.
