A Compact millimeter-wave antenna with enhanced gain for 5G wireless communication

This paper presents, a microstrip patch antenna with rectangular slot on radiating patch operating in the millimeter-wave (mmW) band for 5G communication system. the antenna geometry and structure are explained. this antenna design consist of three layers, the top layer is radiating patch with rectangular slot and a coplanar waveguide structure feeds the microstrip antenna with a matching port coupled to a 50Ω impedance. Middle layer is substrate, the substrate material is RT/duroid 5880 with dielectric constant 2.2 for good gain and bandwidth. The bottom layer is ground plane, the bottom of the substrate layer is partially etched near the ground plane. A coplanar waveguide structure and partially etched substrate technique are used in this antenna. This antenna model is operated below −10dB return loss with resonant frequency 32.702GHz, the gain of the antenna is 9.76dB and VSWR is 1.188. The commercially available simulation tools CST studio suite have been used for antenna parameter calculation and antenna geometry.
