A Hybrid Model to Investigate Perception Towards Adoption of Autonomous Vehicles in India

Autonomous Vehicles are becoming new trend in automobile industry as more and more manufacturers are trying to develop self-driving vehicles. This decade will mark the shift from people driving cars to cars driving people to their destination. As many level 4 and level 5 autonomous vehicles are under development and many level 2 and level 3 are available in market, it is pertinent to investigate what and how much people know and understand about this new technology and what is their perception towards using autonomous vehicles in India. The aim of this study is to gain an understanding of consumer perspective towards autonomous vehicles in India. A Hybrid model based on unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and technology acceptance model TAM was used to assess people's comfort with levels of autonomy, acceptance of autonomous vehicles and other related attributes about perception. The model was implemented and public perception was collated through an online survey onto which statistical analysis was performed. From the results, we infer that people are excited to use level 5 vehicles. Though Indian public is waiting for these vehicles to arrive in market yet there appear some apprehensions about security.
