Enhancing dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol performance based on link quality metrics

The procedure of identifying a path between the source node and the target node in the mobile ad hoc networks, also known as MANETs is considered research open area for many researchers. Due to the limitation of MANETs resource capability such as limit node battery power and small memory space. Therefore, in this paper a new method called Select Optimal Link in Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) is proposed to specify the ideal path for routing messages between the source node and target node. In this method, ideal path is selected according to three metrics: node energy level, number of nodes' neighbor and distance between any pair of the nodes that used in the routing path. Also, the path is evaluated according to the nodes' remaining energy usage and Quality of Services (QoS) parameters: latency, average throughput and drop packet. The simulation results have been shown that path in SOL-DSR, gives better performance for QoS three metrics (throughput=972.66 Kbps, drop packet=195, delay=925.374 milliseconds) and less network energy usage in comparison with the path that produced by standard DSR (throughput=232.20 Kbps, drop packet=3449, delay=766.421 milliseconds) and “Adaptive Stable” DSR (ASDSR) (throughput=633.44 Kbps, drop packet=300, delay=1100 milliseconds).
