An Efficiency Assessment of State Owned Indian Electric PV Utilities

In this article, the performance efficiencies of 31 PV electric utilities from different regions of India are calculated using two different Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models. Output oriented DEA is implemented to analyze overall efficiency which include scale efficiency and technical efficiency. The slack analysis has been carried out to suggest improvements in the relatively inefficient divisions. Out of 31 PV electric utilities, only 12 were identified as efficient with an overall efficiency of 1. Other 18 utilities have room for further improvement in their overall efficiency. Various policy makers and managers can use this study’s results to improve operational efficiencies and better management for higher productivity and profitability.
