Application of GIS in Crime Assessment: A Case Study of Shillong Municipal Area

In present context, crime is a social problem that maximum cities use to face. Shillong is one of the most populated and important tourist hub of North Eastern India. From the view points of economical, residential, administrative and tourist importance, assessment of crime is very significant for Shillong. To assess crime scenario in Shillong municipal area, GIS techniques have been applied. Service area of each police stations have been generated. Shortest routes have been identified from the police stations to location of crime. Probable temporal locations of criminal have been identified which will be helpful for security planning purposes of police.
