A framework of integrating VR and IoT technology to test users’ preferences of artificial lighting variations in hotel guest room

The applications of the 4^th industrial revolution have become indispensable part in our daily life. Technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and tangible interaction helped in bridging the gap between the physical world and the digital world. Moreover, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology helped in digitalizing the physical environment, adding enormous interaction capabilities. This research paper is an attempt to develop a theoretical framework for integrating VR and IoT technologies in the interior design process. Specially, the suggested framework will be used to test the users’ preferences of artificial lighting variations in virtual reality model of a typical guestroom in “Five Stars” hotel. The IoT contribution in the framework will be through controlling the “Intensity” parameter of artificial lighting based on variations in other internal design elements and external environmental factors. The framework can be used as a design tool to help the interior designer in determining the appropriate intensity of artificial light needed in a typical “5 stars” guest room in order to enhance the guest’s satisfaction level.
