High power low distortion switch mode rectifier

To meet the specified harmonic standards for the input current of an AC-DC power converter at high power levels, an auxiliary converter consisting of low-power high-frequency switching devices is connected in parallel with the main converter having high-power low-frequency switching devices. The main converter meets total active power requirement of the load, whereas the auxiliary converter only supplies the harmonic power requirement of the main converter. The new connection scheme and auxiliary converter topology reduce the over all components count, system cost and offers a simple control strategy. Software simulation studies and experimental tests verify the high power factor and low harmonic current at input of the rectifier.
