Relationship between Cervical Vertebrae Maturity Levels with Mandibular Growth at the Age of 8 – 20 Years in Batak Tribe

Maturity of the cervical spine has good validity and ability to detect a person's growth and development. Different racial groups will have different craniofacial patterns. This study aims to determine the relationship between the maturity level of the cervical vertebrae and mandibular growth at the age of 8-20 years in the Batak tribe. A total of 100 lateral cephalograms (50 male and 50 female) were selected by purposive sampling method based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Mandibular length was measured from Co-Gn, Go-Pog for corpus length, and Co-Go for ramus height using CorelDRAW application. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test. The highest increase in mandibular growth was found in men from CVMS 3 to CVMS 4 with mandibular length of 13.06 +/- 9.23, corpus length of 8.96 +/- 6.34 and ramus height of 5.62 +/- 3.97. While in the women group, it occurs from CVMS 2 to CVMS 3 with a mandibular length of 5.66 +/- 4.00, a corpus length of 5.83 +/-4.12 and a ramus height of 3.93 +/- 2.78. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of maturity of the cervical vertebrae with mandibular growth at the age of 8-20 years of the Batak tribe.
