Bi-Level Pressure Ventilation Assistive Device for Pulmonary Ailments and Overlap Syndromes

People suffering from various respiratory ailments such as sleep apnea, asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), requires a ventilation support system to improve their deteriorating health by providing sufficient amount of oxygenation which regularizes breathing pattern at night when the symptoms get extreme. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure systems often provides constant and continuous stream of pressurized air to the patient's airway which prevent apnea. Both BiPAP and CPAP machines can also be used to treat heart failure, which is a potential complication of COPD. O, where BiPAP systems are designed with inhalation pressure and exhalation pressure controls for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder and severe stage of apnea. The positive end expiratory pressure prevents the throat muscles from weakening and lowers obstructions. Throughout the night, airway pressure allows the patients to breathe easily and consistently. Exhaling against the incoming air can be challenging for patients during CPAP therapy with higher pressure powers as they have to push their breathing out. Some patients in BiPAP, may need CPAP. No existing device functions in both the modes. In these types of situations, the combination of a BiPAP system with a CPAP could be successful and become an alternative approach. This work aims at integration of CPAP and BiPAP mode of operation into a single machine by placing a pressure controls for inspiratory and expiratory positive pressure and a toggle switch to switch the mode of operation when required. Thus the system allows the patients to get more air in and out of their lungs.
