Performance Evaluation of Hyperledger Fabric Retrofitted by SM2/3/4

The underlying cryptography suite of Hyperledger Fabric only supports international cryptographic algorithm, and does not support Chinese commercial cryptographic algorithm SM2/3/4, which prevents the promoting of Hyperledger Fabric in China. To further promote the application of Hyperledger Fabric in China, we retrofit the underlying cryptography suite of Fabric v1.4.3 by Chinese commercial cryptographic algorithm SM2/3/4, called Fabric-SM, and then evaluate the performance of Fabric v1.4.3 and Fabric-SM in various aspects, such as transaction throughput, execution time and transaction latency. The experimental results show that the performance of Fabric-SM is close to that of Fabric v1.4.3. Without any degradation in performance, Fabric-SM fully meets the requirements of Chinese government on the legality of cryptography. In a word, developers can develop various applications of Permissioned Blockchain based on Fabric-SM under the condition of safety and legality.
