Induction Motors Assessment: A Substitution Case Analysis

Currently, 70% of the electric motors installed globally are unregulated (IE0) and standard efficiency (IE1) motors. With higher efficiencies existing commercially, as well as the minimum efficiency requirements for commercial sales, the replacement of old/non-efficient electric motors can bring great savings in economic and ecological terms. This work presents a technical and economic analysis carried out for the substitution of electric motors classes IE0 and IE1 in a pumping system at the Federal University of Pará. The results highlight the importance of measurement before making substitutions, and the considerations to be made aiming for greater energy and economic savings.
