Performance Analysis of a MIMO-STBC System in Presence of Rayleigh Fading Taking Noise as Parameter with Constant Gain

The main challenge in today’s communication system is to expand bandwidth capabilities in 5G since demand for high data rate application is increasing day by day. To satisfy this demand, 5G cellular relies upon massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology. Space Time Block Codes (STBC) provides sophisticated numerical solution for allowing full diversity over fading channels. It is one of the most common approaches for MIMO systems to achieve greater data rates with limited bandwidth and power. The intension of this paper is to propose a power efficient system with full diversity that would offer optimal performance at the least cost with enhanced data rate. To reach this goal, a theoretical approach is presented to evaluate the performance of a MIMO system using STBC in the Rayleigh faded channel along with a system model. Bit error Rate (BER) expression is derived for MIMO-STBC system with BPSK modulation scheme. The simulation results are evaluated considering noise as a parameter with fixed antenna gain with respect to different antenna configuration. Then, a power penalty for the analysis is estimated for a variable number of transmitting and receiving antennas to determine an optimal system that provides better performance at the lowest possible cost. It has been found that among different antenna configuration 3x3 systems offer better quality performance at minimum cost. Finally, a simulation has been performed to compare the proposed system model with the conventional one.
