A neurophysiologically-based vision system

Summary form only given. This discussion focuses on the data-driven early-vision architecture the authors use, called the Neural Analog Diffusion-Enhancement Layer (NADEL). The NADEL was designed on the basic biological and psychological data on the human brain. The authors have built a neurologically motivated test system simulating the capabilities of a spreading activation network as a prerequisite to constructing wafer-scale integrated circuits which implement it. Some of the problems with which the network has been successful are outlined.<>
