Modular, Mass-Producible, Eye-Safe, Heat-Safe Laser Power Beaming System for Space and Ground Applications

Laser power beaming systems have been explored for several decades to provide wireless power transfer for space and ground applications, but they have not become widely adopted. Recent technology advances in lasers and photovoltaic cells have renewed interest in laser power beaming by NASA and DOD for space applications, and by DOD and DOE for ground applications. This paper presents a novel architecture for laser power beaming that offers several benefits over previous approaches, especially in safety, mass, performance, and cost. The new approach will be presented, and its advantages explained, with both space and ground examples.
