Fast CNC Milling Simulation Based on Local Permutation Embedding Sequences

This paper presents a method for fast rendering of CNC milling which is based on the previous techniques using the Permutation Embedding Sequence (PES). To reduce the total length of the PES, the viewing frustum is subdivided and the rendering is performed by generating sub-images in each sub-window. The swept volumes of the milling tools are also subdivided into sub-volumes such that the number of volumes related to a sub-window becomes much less, which leads to greatly reduced length of PES. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is that rendering is only performed according to the relevance between the object and the viewing frustum, which avoids unnecessary rendering of objects that are irrelevant to the frustum. By comparing with the traditional method through some experiments, it shows that the proposed strategy improves the efficiency of rendering considerably.
