Abstract:
The need to research modern cyber-physical systems (CPS) such as microgrids and shipboard power systems (SPS) has driven the use and development of novel methods and tools designed to capture the complexity of such systems. Novel testing methodologies are used to de-risk implementations and provide an effective way of testing diverse system topologies, controllers, and/or scenarios that could exist in these systems. In this work, we focus on creating communication network models used to evaluate SPS models. These models are designed to capture both the behavior of SPS from both the physical and cyber perspectives. The scalability of the models and software used to design communication networks is explored in an effort to provide a common platform to perform communication network simulation/emulation for systems designed to be used in SPS applications.
