A High-frequency High-power Transformer Based on Split Planar Coils for High-isolation Applications

For the power electronic transformer (PET), the high-isolation high-frequency high-power transformer is the key equipment. In this paper, a high-frequency high-power transformer based on split planar coils for PETs is presented. The structure and characteristics of the proposed transformer are presented in detail. Magnetic and electric simulation model is built in ANSYS/MAXWELL 3D to investigate the magnetic core flux density distribution and the electric field intensity distribution. A 37kW transformer prototype is designed and an experimental setup is built in order to evaluate the performance of the transformer prototype. The transformer prototype is tested at 37.7kW full power and a peak efficiency of 98.567% is achieved including the loss of the inverter and rectifier.
