Image Transmission in Serial and Parallel Turbo code with BPSK and QPSK Modulations

This paper studies the performance of color image transmission via turbo code in two types (Serial concatenated Convolutional Code (SCCC) and Parallel concatenated Convolutional Code (PCCC)). The goal is to evaluate the performance of the turbo code in each transmission case that can be used to obtain the optimum performance of the image transmission process. The results are evaluated in terms of the bit error rate (BER), at different values of the signal-to-noise ratio, and the different number of iterations in the decoder. The first stage is image segmentation, whereby the sent image is segmented into frames; The tested frame length is 2048 bits. The second stage is the coding, in which the turbo code is tested in two types: the SCCC and PCCC, where random interleaving is used in both. The third stage is modulation. The two systems were tested without modulation and then tested with two types of modulation, Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) and Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying (QPSK). The fourth stage is the AWGN channel is used. The results showed that the best case was the parallel concatenated convolutional code (PCCC) with BPSK modulation, which achieved the optimum performance in image transmission and gave the lowest bit error rate BER.
