A Prism Based Structure is Developed through Design Thinking Method to Improve the Performance of Automatic Optical Inspection System

The traditional method of appearance defect detection is to rely on the examiner's personnel senses identification, but people's vision is lack of standard, and it is easy to cause false detection or missed detection due to fatigue or inattention. Therefore, the use of automatic optical inspection equipment, is the use of machine vision instead of human eyes to carry out quality inspection, in addition to improving inspection quality and efficiency, but also reduce the cost of human resources, but the cost of automatic optical inspection (AOI) equipment is not low, for the traditional furniture wood processing, economic factors are the biggest obstacle to implement. Another reason is that there are great differences among length, width and height. Generally, the width is much larger than the height. Therefore, the sheet can be put on the conveyer along the length direction. However, for the narrow side, turning and erecting need fixture. There are many ways to solve problems in traditional industrial engineering, such as DMAIC and 8D methodology. Most of them belong to the vertical mode thinking method. This mechanism design uses the lateral mode thinking method, adopts the five stages of design thinking, and creates the auxiliary mechanism design with the principle of prism reflection, which is simple and solves the procedure operation of avoiding turning over and vertical detection. The design can simultaneously detect the front side, left side and right sides of the wood board, and verify the design performance of high efficiency and low cost.
