Relations Between Dielectric Permittivity and Volumetric Water Content of Living Soil

Organic matter content may have significant influence on soil dielectric properties and also on the relations between soil dielectric permittivity and volumetric water content. Since soil contains a variety of living organisms, the organic matter can naturally change in time. The purpose of the research was to examine whether the natural changes in living soil affected dielectric properties. During the course of ten days, complex dielectric permittivity of six samples of moist soil was examined in the frequency range from 10 to 300 MHz. As a result, dielectric permittivity – volumetric water content relations were determined for each day. The time changes of the parameters of a fitted equation were described.
