Solid insulating materials for electrical and electronic equipment

Every manufacturer is aware of the fundamental economic importance attached to the choice of materials used in the design of the equipment which he manufactures and sells. This is particularly the case for electrical products in view of safety requirements and standards. The choice is rendered even more difficult by the considerable developments which have taken place in recent years in insulating materials whose properties, characteristics and costs are extremely varied. The IEC, through its efforts to bring about uniformity and clarification — in other words, standardisation — on a world-wide basis provides the manufacturer and the technical designer with the all-essential elements necessary to arrive at an optimum choice based on technical and economic considerations.
