Broadcasting is a technology based industry which is developing fitter than most industries. The present surge of technological change in broadcasting is based on the transistor and its microelectronic derivatives, integrated circuits and semiconductor stores In particular. The transistor and its derivatives have also made computers practical Broadcasting engineers have applied computer technology to broadcasting and as a result more and more signals are being handled in digital form. Transistor technology makes equipment smaller, lighter, cheaper and more reliable. Digital technology makes signal storage, processing and distribution easier white maintaining the original quality unimpaired. The paper discusses how these developments are likely to affect broadcasting and its reception in the 1980s.
