Power generation in South Africa

Over the last 80 years, there have been extensive developments in the power supply industry in South Africa, as elsewhere in the world. The most evident of these has been the increase in the size of generating units. Whereas in 1897 700 kW units were being installed, ESCOM has recently placed orders for 600 MW units. This represents nearly a nine-hundredfold increase in unit size.
