E.h.v. and u.h.v. power transmission — Present status and future prospects

A review is made of the present status and future prospects of e.h.v. and u.h.v. power transmission. The limits, in terms of voltage, of overhead power transmission are discussed. The choice of insulation levels, as well as the possibilities of coping with amenity effects, such as audible noise and induced electric fields and currents are treated in some detail. A review is made of e.h.v. and u.h.v. apparatus development. The paper ends with a short description of the u.h.v. test stations in operation today.
