An Efficient Harmonic Load Flow Solution with Reduced Jacobean Matrix

Due to extensive use of power electronic circuits in wide range applications, there is noticeable non-sinusoidal currents and ultimately non-sinusoidal bus voltages present in today’s power systems. Load flow analysis is widely used to find out voltage at various parts of the systems under sinusoidal conditions. By reformulation of conventional load flow, the harmonic load flow algorithms has been implemented on the power systems with the type of nonlinearity of nonlinear loads known. This requires the detailed modelling of the nonlinear load and possesses Fourier expansion of nonsinusoidal load current. In this paper, nonlinear load is taken into account by using harmonic spectrum of the load available in IEEE-519 and an efficient harmonic load flow method is proposed which result in reduction of size of Jacobean matrix. Power flow equations are generated based on IEEE Standard 1459-2010. The proposed algorithm is implemented on IEEE 5 bus system which is modified by considering nonlinear load with same active power demand at bus 5. For simplicity, a sixpulse converter is considered as a non-linear load. The results obtained by the proposed algorithm are verified by modelling the power system in MATLAB platform and the results are presented in this paper.
