Selection and types of induction motors

It is assumed that the choice of an induction motor is governed by the following considerations: — (1) Nature of the current supply, pressure and frequency. (2) Nature of the work and conditions under which the motor operates. These conditions include the starting torque required, that is to say, whether the motor is to start light or fully loaded — speed, continuous or intermittent loads, direct coupled, geared or arranged for a belt or rope drive. (3) Economic conditions, initial capital outlay, cost of installation and probable operating and maintenance costs.
