AC Power Flow Control – Minimizing VA Rating

Power flow control in an AC meshed grid is challenging and often expensive. Although there are a variety of existing solutions, all of them try to mitigate the symptom of an overloaded / underloaded line. This paper shows a new approach to solve the problem of maximizing network throughput and presents a patented "node compensation based" approach that reduces the required VA rating of AC power flow controller by 50% or more. The Nodal Power Arbitrator (NODPAR) device topology, equations, and bypass circuit along with proof-of-concept simulation results are presented in this paper.
