Typhoon HIL Real-Time Validation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor’s Control

This paper presents the validation of a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) characteristics and motor control using Typhoon HIL software for both real-time simulation and testbench control. A PMSM with 5 pole pairs has been chosen for this endeavor. The complete system has been modeled using Typhoon HIL. In the simulation environment the PMSM, the three-phase inverter with the sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) and the control were implemented. For the physical testing of the motor, Typhoon HIL 604 platform has been used. As for the software, not much has been changed to control the real testbench. The same control method has been applied to the testbench and the inverter. For the latter an internal modulator was replaced with a simple 3 phase modulator that is sending the control signals to the physical inverter.
