Study of Parameters Influencing the Electrical Locomotives Efficiency

The paper is focused on an intensive study relative to the analysis of efficiency-related indices characterizing 2 electrical locomotives working in tandem to tract freight trains. Software was conceived to process many data acquired from the train (absorbed and regenerated active and reactive energies, geographical coordinates of the route, speed, meteorological conditions etc). In order to reduce the influence of declivity over the final results, data were acquired for both senses of running over the same route. Statistic data related to other identical locomotives for 12 consecutive months were used to derive conclusions related to the influence of meteorological conditions all over the year. The average results obtained from the 3 analyzed round trips selected in some of the efficiency-related worst scenarios from the environmental conditions point of view matched the average results computed across a whole month for a set of 10 locomotives and allowed to draw useful conclusions.
