Point-to-point communications — The role of radio

The honour of presenting this paper, gives me the opportunity of making my first visit to this country. However, it is for some thirty years that I have been interested in the overseas telegraph communications of South Africa, since the Marconi beam circuit between Cape Town and London was inaugurated in 1927 using the two South African radio stations at Klipheuwel and Milnerton.
