A Generalized Scalable Configuration of Hybrid "Si+SiC" Paralleled Modular ANPC Converter

In this paper, a generalized scalable configuration of hybrid paralleled modular active neutral point clamped (PM-ANPC) converter comprising silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) based power devices is proposed. Moreover, an improved modulation method is proposed for equal current distribution between the legs, reduced switching frequency of high frequency (HF) power switches, amended switching harmonic spectrum of the output voltage, and decoupled control of low frequency (LF) and HF power switches. Hence, applying the proposed modulation method enables utilizing Si based power switches in LF part and SiC based power devices in HF part of the ANPC legs which leads to decrease dv/dt and cost and increase the efficiency of the proposed paralleled modular converter. In addition, switching harmonic clusters cancelation and equal current distribution between the legs are achieved by applying the proposed modulation method with over sampling method. Simulation and experimental results are provided to evaluate and verify the viability and performance of the proposed hybrid "Si+SiC" PM-ANPC converter.
