An adaptive fuzzy logic speed control of high performance motor drives suitable for low-cost microprocessor based implementations

The paper presents a fuzzy logic (FL) based adaptive control technique for variable speed drives using a recursive-least-square identification algorithm and an original tuning method of the FL speed controller. The input and output gains of the FL speed controller are adjusted on-line according to changes in system parameters, whereas the control rule base and the membership functions of fuzzy sets are kept unchanged. The equations which give the dependence of FL controller gains on system parameters are founded on a parallel study of FL and PI controllers, being used in the tuning process of the FL speed controller. The performance of the proposed adaptive FL control system was tested by simulation studies and practical experiments. Implementation aspects of converter fed motor drive systems are also discussed.
