A real-time multichannel DSP-based neural signal analysis system

A prototype system for real-time analysis of multineuron waveforms has been developed. The system incorporates a third-generation digital signal processor for performing simultaneous real-time detection and classification of neural firing activity on several input channels. The model system contains four input channels, but a study has shown that such a system may be capable to up to eight input channels per DSP. The processor has been programmed to perform the peak windowing, template matching, and principal components classification algorithms. The authors discuss the system that has been developed and present several performance figures for it.<>
