Packet Arrival Analysis using Pareto and Exponential Distribution in Wireless Adhoc Networks

Recent technological advancements in wireless network have enabled sensors with great sensing capability in data transmission and reception. Wireless adhoc network is a network established for data transmission and reception through many wireless nodes. In evaluating the performance of the network, dynamic control and routing based approaches are incorporated in Adhoc networks. Adhoc networks are having constraints in terms of high power consumption and low bandwidth. Communication within the network is affected if the battery power is drained. This limitation is addressed using novel probabilistic approach in packetized transmission and it improves the energy efficiency of the network as well. This paper suggests the methods of routing packets using Pareto and exponential distributions inside a network, which is unique approach in wireless adhoc networks. The performance of the network is compared in between normal DSR routing protocol and with novel packetized transmission using Pareto and Exponential approach in modified DSR. Simulation results using NS2 for these networks shows that probabilistic methods for packetized transmission are more accurate and contributes in terms of improvising packet delivery ratio and residual energy of a wireless adhoc network.
