Redundant Routing Provision in a FlexE-over-WDM Network based on Segment Frame Replication and Elimination

5G is coming with a promise to bring ultra-reliable communication for diversified services. Frame replication and elimination for reliability (FRER) was proposed by IEEE.802.1CB. However, previous studies considered to replicate MAC frames at source node and eliminate them at destination node. It may cause resource over-provided, especially when different packet loss rates (PLR) of links and nodes and diverse reliability requirements (e.g., from 99% to 99.9999%) of flows are taken into consideration. In this work, we focus on a trade-off between efficient resource utilization and guarantee of diverse reliability requirements. To this end, we propose a redundant routing provision based on segment frame replication and elimination for reliability (S-FRER) in a FlexE-over-WDM network. Simulation results show that S-FRER can effectively condense the network redundancy under the premise of meeting flows' reliability requirements.
